A Home-Fragrance Guide for Airbnb and Short-Term Rental Hosts

In a short-term rental, fragrance should never be used to convince guests that a property is clean. The priority is actual cleaning, laundry, ventilation and removal of odor sources. Any added scent should be light, consistent and easy to stop.

Begin with a neutral baseline

Inspect HVAC, drains, upholstery, trash, smoke, moisture, cooking and pet odors. Correct the source. A strong room spray over a persistent problem can make the guest experience worse.

Avoid permanent saturation

Continuous fragrance devices can become intense in closed properties, especially between turnovers. A controlled post-cleaning application in the entry or living area may be easier to manage than fragrance in every room.

Keep bedrooms and small bathrooms lighter

Guests spend long periods in bedrooms, and bathrooms have limited air volume. Consider unscented rooms or minimal fragrance, particularly when guests have not chosen the scent.

Choose broadly understandable profiles

Fresh woods, clean air and restrained citrus may be easier than very sweet, smoky or highly floral profiles. Business Casual, Rebel Black or Cowboy may offer useful directions, but every property and guest mix differs.

Disclose and provide an option

State when scented products are used and make it possible for guests to remove or avoid them where practical. Keep an unscented cleaning and guest-care plan available.

Use take-home products strategically

A locally made hand soap or small welcome product can create a memorable San Antonio detail without scenting the entire property. Follow wholesale, labeling and amenity-use terms.

Hosts should follow platform rules, property policies, insurance requirements and local regulations. Fragrance does not sanitize, disinfect or remediate mold, smoke or other hazards.
